Stephanie Chiu
Founder

As a third generation teacher, and now a parent, I have had the opportunity to experience the ins and outs of education in various provinces from multiple perspectives. One thing that really stood out for me was how difficult it is for parents to find supports and resources for students learning in French, most especially in areas where French is the minority. This lack of support in the community coupled with a finite quantity of resources within the school systems closes the door to bilingualism for many capable students. It also promotes French as a "working" language, omitting real life experiences such as play, authentic casual conversation and development of creative skills and interests which are integral parts of well rounded development. This is what inspired me to launch Virtually French, a community of like-minded, certified teachers, delivering quality programs and providing engaging lessons.
Education
Bachelor's of Science Degree
Sept 2007 - May 2011
I started my BSc with the intention of pursuing a career in marine Biology with a major in genetics. Into my second year, I became intrigued by the development of the human mind so I undertook a minor in Psychology. This ignited my passion for teaching and helped define my teaching philosophy.
Bachelor's Degree in Education
Aug 2011 - June 2012
My Education degree affirmed my teaching philosophy: To transmit a love and passion for learning, to plant a curiosity for knowledge and craving for exploration. It equipped me with tools to put to action the theoretical knowledge attained during my BSc with best education practices.
Kathleen Bisgaard
Teacher

Kathleen is a retired teacher wo has over 30 years experience teaching in French and French Immersion schools in New Brunswick and in Ontario. During her years in the education system she learned first hand the difficulty parents had finding age- and language- appropriate activities for their budding French speaker. As a francophone parent, she also observed that even francophone children will choose to play in English. She yearned for kids to not see French simply as a "school thing". Kathleen is excited to be offering engaging and fun activities to children of all ages through Virtually French. Her experience in theatre, music and improv spans over 25 years and she is excited to provide a delightful outlet for your French and your talents!
